Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has told Sky News all the wage subsidy and stimulus programs implemented by the government will be reviewed "over the coming months" as the nation recovers quicker than expected. JobKeeper payments will this week begin to flow to the more than 725,000 businesses who have registered, while around five million workers will benefit.
The treasurer said Prime Minister Scott Morrison "prepared the nation for a six-month long haul," but the country has been "more successful than we first thought". Mr Frydenberg told Sky News hosts Graham Richardson and Chris Smith, JobKeeper for example has a "review after three months" although it is legislated for six months given that "some industries will recover more quickly than others".

Implementing a land tax would alter the ‘entire structure of our democracy’ | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Rowan Dean says if the New South Wales government brings in a land tax on primary residences it will change “the entire structure of how our democracy, our property-owning democracy works”.\n\nNSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Treasurer Dominic Perrottet have announced the state-based taxes of payroll tax and stamp duty will be removed which will relieve the financial burden on many in the state.\n\nHowever, Mr Dean said although this announcement was “terrific” something has to replace stamp duty and there are only two ways to reform the tax system, either through raising the GST or implementing a land tax.\n\nHe told Sky News host Paul Murray, the premier and treasurer need to “level with us” and admit they’re considering a land tax to replace stamp duty.\n\n“Are you planning a land tax, because if so, you need to take that to the electorate”.\n\nA land tax would mean “you never ever own your house, the state always has a finger in your pocket,” he said.\n\nImage: News Corp Australia We already pay local land tax, we are top heavy with Gov departments trim them back and save millions, we need efficient management not more taxes on the struggling public.
