Australia Headlines News

The Morrison government is seeking new deals to vaccinate millions of Australians by the middle of this year as it hits back at concerns it is relying too heavily on the AstraZeneca vaccine when other options could be more effective.

"We posed the question to them: how much vaccine could you give us in the first half of 2021 and they gave us an answer, and then we negotiated on the price," Professor Kelly said.

Asked about the Moderna vaccine, Professor Kelly said "it takes two parties to sign" and the company had to agree to supply doses, something that was still in negotiation. "In terms of preventing death, it works 100 per cent of the time. In terms of preventing severe illness, it works 100 per cent of the time," Professor Kelly said. There are no questions about the safety of the AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccine.

Dr Karen Price, president of the Royal Australian College of GPs, whose members will be key in distributing the vaccine, also backed the government. In an important statement on their overall strategy, federal officials acknowledged that herd immunity - establishing enough vaccine coverage to force COVID-19 out of circulation - was not a short-term goal.

Ha! Too late. We put all our money in 2 baskets. One was going to give everyone AIDS and the other is been a slow roll out. Leave the COVAX deal for the countries that need it more, grow a pair and buy more doses of already used vaccines!

Dont care what one they get.. im sure as hell not getting it

Who applied “extraordinary pressure” to independent scientific groups and what kind of pressure? Apparently CSL does not have the technological capacity to produce Pfizer so why not address that?

The federal LNP government seems to only do deals that will financially benefit ministers, LNP members or donors. I never thought I'd see a more corrupt government than the Bjelke Petersen QLD Government but here you have it.

Our PM: Doesn't hold a hose (and also can't get fireservices more funding or equipment), doesn't hold the needle (but also can't get Australians the best vaccine), doesn't like to answer questions from the media (but also can't tell the truth when he does)... what does he do?

The question to be asked which liberal has shares in these companies or which liberal donor has interests in these companies ?

If the UK strain is a new one, will the vaccines be effective against it 🤔

Morrison government looks corrupt

Did we order our vaccine from Wish? 😐🤔

Pfizer. Of course Pfizer. Who are these people in Canberra recommending AstraZeneca..? vaccine COVID19 covid auspol covidAU

So he’s lied again. Last year scottyfromarketing said Australia was in front of the line.

Other options may be more effective but they are all MUCH harder to distribute. That’s the crux of the situation. The 70% protection that this vaccine offers is still WAY better than nothing and should be just enough for us to return to some sort of normal.

Let’s just hope people follow the financial trail & see the AU politicians financially benefiting from us buying the AZ vaccine over others! Let’s name those who have shares in this company!
