Australia has joined the world in promising to make the nation carbon-neutral by 2050, ahead of a global climate change summit.

The plan relies on investment in a range of "low-emissions" technologies and "ultra-low-cost" solarThe government estimates the plan will create 62,000 jobs in regional mining and heavy industry

They include soil carbon sequestration — where carbon is removed from the atmosphere and stored in soil — carbon capture and storage, production of low-emissions steel, and other ways to reduce energy use. As part of the deal to secure the Nationals support, the Productivity Commission will review the new plan every five years to measure the impact reducing emissions has on regional communities.

They literally haven't. So disappointed in you auspol NetZero

Reported for being misleading. Do better, ABC.

A que no!

How ? Get rid of most petrol stations ?

Sure it does

Now do China and India.

Not a commitment!! It’s just another weak trick from ScottyTheClown

Give didn’t “commit”. A plan to achieve is not a commitment.

All to please the nature lovers.

No ... it didn't

Not sure how existing policies will magically increase from 26-28% reduction to ‘carbon neutral’

Big bloody deal!

I wish the ABC would commit to making this PM accountable. abcnotonourside

It’s not legislated and is meaningless, please fix the headline

Don’t you mean “Government commits to slideshow that brings nothing new to the table.”

You can tell just looking the fuel prices ATM, 5he democrats green energy policies are driving the fuel prices up to the roof and the poor people are paying the price not politics ,this one's live like Kings no expenses all paid by the population

Yay, we will stop growing products that degrade farms like soy, corn, conola, and wheat? instead, all will start growing nutritious grass regenerating the landscape with cattle sheep, and other grazers?

. Wording - “up to 35%” emissions reduction by 2030 is a projection, not a commitment. Net zero 2050 will not be legislated (mandated).

Nationals agree to support Prime Minister’s net zero by 2050 planDeputy Prime Minister and leader of the Nationals party Barnaby Joyce has confirmed they will support the Prime Minister's net zero by 2050 plan. There wasn’t any doubts! They are all budding actors putting on a show, they just want to be celebrities! Don’t you just love them! NOT! Net zero by 2050 is not acceptable without a serious concrete plan to halve emissions by 2030. Australia has no credible plan to reduce emissions quickly and at COP26 the world will point that out. auspol ClimateEmergency “Agreed to a process” not “agreed to support”. After almost 8 years and 2 Sundays the Nats have agreed to joint the LP and do nothing on climate change. Well done ScottMorrisonMP .
