Every Australian with type 1 diabetes will get access to a potentially life-saving continuous glucose monitoring device under a $273 million plan to be outlined by the Morrison government on Sunday. | jamesmassola auspol ausvotes ausvotes22

Social Services Minister Anne Ruston will be health minister and replace the retiring Greg Hunt if Scott Morrison wins the next election.Victorian ministers Jane Hume and Michael Sukkar and Western Australian Ben Morton are among the front-runners to move up into the cabinet and take over the families and social services portfolio.

At present, about 59,000 Australians including pregnant women, people under 21 and concession cardholders have subsidised access to the devices, which otherwise cost about $5000 per year. The federal government has also revealed that the prostate cancer drug Erlyand and Empliciti, which is used to treat multiple myeloma, will both be listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme for the first time – reducing the price to $42.50 per script - from May 1.

jamesmassola why wasnt this done before?

jamesmassola The NDSS is such a good initiative. Makes the burden of diabetes a little bit less. Long term this will save money in health care costs for chronic conditions for poorly managed diabetes. AlboMP Step up!

jamesmassola Isn't that a stolen labor policy?

jamesmassola My son is Type 1. He didn’t do anything to acquire this condition and nothing could’ve prevented it. Promising to provide adults with subsidised life saving devices in exchange for votes is sickening. I’m not being blackmailed for my vote. Take note AlboMP - MATCH HIM!

jamesmassola I'd rather an Apple Watch that did the same

jamesmassola Good policy. This is what sound Federal Governments do.

jamesmassola But who owns the data collected?

I'll never vote for them. Pressure AlboMP to fund CGM for all people with type1diabetes instead. We're a small group but it's lifesaving technology Yeah sure, more false promises they never intend to keep while they continue to insidiously kill off Medicare by stealth.
