OPINION: The once venerable General Electric is breaking itself apart, providing investors with a chance to specialise in healthcare, aviation or energy.

the conglomerate structure was no longer an effective vehicle for managing GE’s diverse array of businesses.The first spin-off from the mothership will be GE Healthcare, which is listing on the Nasdaq exchange in the first week of January.

“In some areas, like South America or India or Southeast Asia, we’re solving for healthcare access. In some of these countries, we also solve for affordable care. This has allowed the company to partner with leading companies such as advanced cancer treatment specialist Genesis Care. GE Healthcare signed an agreement with GenesisCare 10 years ago and then took the partnership to global markets.GE Healthcare has worked closely with researchers at Melbourne University, and it is using similar partnerships in Singapore and South Korea to implement artificial intelligence solutions.

“An example is you do a blood test, you do a urine test, maybe you do an x-ray and another kind of clinical consultation,” he says.
