Lines of mourners pay their respects for Gabby Petito, the 22-year-old whose death on a trip across the United States has sparked a manhunt for her boyfriend.

Relatives and friends gathered at the funeral service for a young American woman whose disappearance and killing on a road trip across the US made international headlines, as a manhunt intensifies for her boyfriend. In attendance were family members, friends, coworkers and people who were touched by Ms Petito's story

Ms Petito's father, who opened the funeral service in Holbrook, New York, to the public, urged Americans not to be saddened by his daughter's tragic death, but motivated by her brief, adventurous life. "She was a beautiful soul; she was full of life, always smiling," said Desiree Keeffe, a friend of Ms Petito's mother, Nichole. Two fire trucks were positioned one on either side of the funeral home, each with its ladder extended, and a line of firefighters was seen filing into the building.

"She was just such a light. Anywhere she went the room lit up. It's nice to see so many people come together and support her family."
