Prosecutors have dropped all fraud related charges but one against infamous prison escapee John Killick.
The 76-year-old, who became a household name in 1999 when he escaped from Silverwater prison in a helicopter hijacked by his gun-toting Russian lover and spent six weeks on the run,All of those charges, except for having a stolen rug in his custody, were dropped in front of Magistrate Jacqueline Milledge at the Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday.
Police had alleged that Mr Killick was the sixth member of a multimillion-dollar fraud syndicate that allegedly stole mail and used the details to generate fraudulent credit cards and mortgages.show that Mr Killck's role in the alleged fraud syndicate was limited to going to Deco Rug Alexandria with one of the two fraud syndicate principals, Dean Ryan, where Ryan purchased a rug with a stolen credit card.
Mr Killick is now facing just one charge, of having stolen goods in his custody, and "should have reasonably suspected" it was stolen, his lawyer told the Downing Centre on Tuesday.He will return to court in four weeks for sentencing.In 1999, the now-septuagenarian was plucked from prison in a helicopter chartered by his Russian lover Lucy Dudko in what remains one of Australia's most daring prison breaks.
Avoiding a hail of bullets, the convicted bank robber and his lover flew off and remained on the run for six weeks before being recaptured.
