Ben Hunt has been named at hooker and four players stand to make their Maroons debut after Queensland named their team for the State of Origin opener in Sydney next week.
Coach Billy Slater has thrown caution to the wind by naming Selwyn Cobbo, Reuben Cotter, Patrick Carrigan and Jeremiah Nanai in the Queensland 17, with Hunt in the No.9 jersey ahead of Harry Grant, who has been assigned the 14 jumper at this stage.
There was no room for David Fifita, who has struggled with injury and form at the Titans and was left out of an extended squad that also includes Cowboys pairing Murray Taulagi and Tom Dearden. Slater has picked this team on form. Cobbo has been a revelation for the Broncos and so has Nanai for North Queensland. Carrigan has been close for some seasons and Cotter, a tough-as-teak lock, looked like an Origin player from the moment he stepped onto the field in Townsville.
