Several private schools are due to start term as early as Thursday, meaning the government’s back to school announcement came too late to factor into their week one plans

Students will begin returning to school amid the Omicron wave on Thursday, as several Sydney private schools open their doors for face-to-face learning with or without the government’s supply of rapid antigen tests.

There are no prescribed days for testing, students are not required to register their negative results with the school and a government spokesman said students did not need to test to attend the first day. “It is our view that it is essential that boys and staff can test themselves before the first day of term if we are to abide by the intention of the NSW government’s plan to keep school students and staff as safe as possible in the current climate,” headmaster Richard Malpass wrote to parents on Tuesday morning.

“Given our timing for the start of school, the Premier’s announcement on Sunday was too late for us. Executive staff spent much of last week working on COVID risk assessments and tailoring our return to school plans in line with the information we were regularly supplied through the [Association of Independent Schools] NSW,” she said.

Don’t worry about the private schools. They are well resourced to handle the situation. The media should stop poking holes.

Doesn’t matter. Just get on with it. The education and social development of children is more important than any health regulations at this stage. LifeGoesOn

The state and federal governments shovel tax payers $ to private schools but have no input into decisions. And I looked forward to an article in the SMH about how students attending private schools attend for less days every year.

MLC started Tuesday.

Same schools got diverted vaccines let's not forget. They'll be fine.

They started last Monday , seriously SMH journos must live under a rock.
