South Australian firefighters are on high alert as 10 of the state’s 15 fire districts are issued with total fire bans.

The mercury is tipped to reach 37 degrees in Adelaide on Thursday, the capital city's hottest October day in five years. Residents in total fire ban areas are being urged to prepare their homes and put a bush fire plan in place. Image: News Corp Australia
