Federal health authorities say 'this is not a second wave'

Deputy Chief Medical Officer Michael Kidd has praised Victoria for its handling of recent coronavirus outbreaks while also issuing a warning to young people to take the virus seriously.Health authorities say the response to the outbreaks in Victoria are going exactly as plannedAs of Sunday afternoon there are 11 people in hospital and one in intensive care with the virus

Professor Kidd said the continued jump in cases in the state was "of genuine concern" but that the Commonwealth fully supported the way the outbreaks are being handled."What we're seeing in Victoria is exactly what was planned when we have outbreaks occurring across the country." Professor Kidd said the Government also supported the Victorian Government's decision to test all returned travellers in hotel quarantine."A reminder that testing is free for every person in Australia," he said.The Deputy Chief Medical Officer also issued a reminder to Australians nation-wide that vigilance, particularly among younger people, was still needed to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

"You may not get sick or very sick … but if you pass the infection onto your parents or your grandparents they could become very unwell, they could even die."As at Sunday afternoon, Professor Kidd said over 6.4 million people had downloaded the Government's COVIDSafe app and that it was "working and working well".

So if this isn't a second wave then did we have a plan to overcome such a huge spike before easing restrictions in Victoria?

That's right because there was NO real 'first wave' to begin with in Australia and if testing is just limited to non-specific PCR test, then there's no way to confirm if it's really covid19 or whether it's the seasonal flu or even common cold caused by other coronavirus strains.
