Craig Mortensen and daughter Kira were travelling to their home town Nanango on Friday night when they were suddenly surrounded by a torrent of water.After the car became submerged, the fisherman tied his daughter to him using rope and swam to the nearest tree.
“The first snake I got a stick, I just put it under the middle of his belly and flicked him back off,” Mr Mortensen told Sunrise. The local community has hailed Mr Mortensen a “local hero” and “true definition of a dad” in Facebook posts.The aftermath of flood continues to devastate Queensland communities where the clean-up effort continues.“We‘ve got the big clean-up and as you can see the water is still six foot deep in the basement,” Mr Proudlock said.Floods lashed parts of regional Queensland with some areas experiencing up to 570mm of rain in 24 hours.
