Climate protesters who brought the streets of Melbourne to a standstill are vowing to make a comeback in autumn as police reveal the cost of overtime for controlling the protests would be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Victoria Police Commander Tim Hansen said while the disruption in Melbourne was significant, it could have been much worse. This week thousands of ordinary Australians are disrupting major cities with rolling blockades to draw attention to the climate crisis. I am one of them, writes Chloe Adams.

"I can give the public assurance that what was planned was significantly more than what eventuated," Commander Hansen said. He said police were"well and truly over it" with more than 16,000 patrol hours used to quell the protests.drink driving and family violence. "Because of the need to resource this protest, we've had to take some resources away from those programs," Commander Hansen said. While it is too early to say how large the police overtime bill will be, Commander Hansen said it was expected to be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Melbourne and Adelaide are frontline cities. Overtime cost police pay, packets. Fines, downtime protestors wear, as prophets warning of impending CATACLYSM. THIS Xmas holiday Season In true sense of existential police work, nobody dies, without knowledge of cause ClimateChange

not if the courts jail them! jail them!

Too hot?

Save your urine.

ABC, comments on your tweets starting to look a lot like SKY news or the Australian. Nothing to be proud of

If they want to protest that's fine because it is their right to do so. The ones who were arrested for being disruptive have the rest of their lives to regret getting a criminal record. So many places they now cannot travel to and so many things they cannot do. Was it worth it?

Must have to go and do work for the dole for six months.

The 1st of April is very apt for them 🤣

Oh good looking forward to it I'll bring some tea and cake for them and a massive chill pill if you know what I mean if they want to make a differance on climate change ..protest in China they'll look after you...

Will the climate be too hot for them between now and then?

So it seems they will only protest when the weather is cold but isn't weather and climate different

Those who were arrested should be proud of themselves....climate change is the defining issue of our times...there will be many more protests between now and April

Ooooh can’t wait. But why only April don’t they know there’s an emergency 🚨.

So the silent majority........ Forgets to...... Give a shit.

Mmmyes, trust the science they say … StupidLeftards

It was nice to see ExtinctionR clean up in Carlton Gardens today and load their campsite onto these trailers towed by large vehicles running on hydrogen and fairy dust....

After spending hours and hours on their smart phone's created by big companies and using so much power to drive the servers that conect them, bloody hypocrites.

The pollies and police obviously work for the fossil fuel multi nationals

Try not to get too disappointed ABC. I'm sure you can find lots more opportunities to keep your pet issues on the boil between now and then.

😂 These fools are protesting climate change in Sydney and Melbourne whilst in country NSW 25 cars are burning 4.6 litres of high octane fuel every lap for 161 laps. In other words.....18,515 litres.....

Is the marijuana crop being harvested or what?

I'll buy 50L of milk now and store it somewhere warm for them

NOT IF THEY ARE EXTINCT

Ran out of George Soros money

Why wait that long?

Back with this guy in charge.

Suppose the kiddies need a holiday from all the extinction outrage.

Good 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Oh I can't wait

The world will have literally ended by then. Why wait when we are in a catastrophic emergency!!!

Why the break? I thought we had a limited time to save the world.

Where's Tim Flannery ?.

Off to the beaches for summer holidays.

no one: abc: extinction rebellion says..

It appears Melbourne is in need of water cannons equipped with fluorescent dye.

I can’t wait for their interpretive dances

When their dole runs out and they need to get off the couch.....

Yawn.

Why are they on summer vacation till then?....

Why? Are they scared of the heat or cold? 😂😂

Why the crackdown on Extinction Rebellion is good news for protestersAs the movement grows stronger, so do attempts by state and federal governments to stop it. Here's a prediction. After a few weeks or perhaps months, the bulk of these protesters will give up and move on. Remember KONY 2012 More activism for an Apocalyptic Doomsday Cult by TheirABC, disguised as journalism. The key message from these eco terrorists is no message at all. All emotional trash and they are simply using a suspect reason to cause as much disruption around the world as possible. Not a single solution being offered and not a single fact being espoused. Disgusting!!

Extinction Rebellion becoming ‘a serious challenge to our institutions’ | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Peta Credlin says it’s democracy that Extinction Rebellion “is really protesting against”, and its ongoing demonstrations are “developing into a serious challenge to our institutions”.\n\n“They don’t like the government the people elected, so they're trying to make the people suffer in the hope that voters will eventually tire of the inconvenience and give them what they want,” she said.\n\nMs Credlin has warned there is “no surer way for government to lose the confidence of the people than to lose control of the streets”.\n\n“In the end, the most basic responsibility of government is to maintain law and order and if they can't, then in a democracy, we've got to change the government.”\n protest all you want but get the fuck out of my way.
