It is hard to believe it was only five months ago that bushfires were threatening much of Australia’s eastern seaboard. The disaster killed at least 33 people and blanketed our towns and cities in heavy smoke, forcing millions of people to breathe in hazardous air for months.about 445 people died last fire season
Another 3340 were admitted to hospital with heart and lung problems and 1373 people attended emergency departments suffering from asthma. The treatment of those patients, and the cost of the premature deaths, was an estimated $2 billion. The federal inquiry is tallying the cost of the horrific bushfire season of 2019-2020 – and not only when it comes to health. It has also heard that the fires triggered insurance claims worth $2.26 billion as a result of property loss. And Threatened Species Commissioner Sally Box said the “ecological disaster” had left 119 animal species in need of "urgent management intervention", work which also carries a financial cost.
Perhaps that is not a surprise. Climate change has been a political hot potato since John Howard was prime minister and has proved especially divisive within the ranks of the Coalition.
The only policy changes should be better management of national parks and fuel clearing. Naming and shaming arsonists wouldn’t go astray either.
The ecological cost is incalculable
And a couple of months before that and again recently NSWRFS covered Sydney in poisonous smoke with the ridiculously HUGE hazard reduction burns. No more of that thanks NSWRFS robrfs
The ecological cost is unimaginable
Yes, beginning with Rio Tinto blowing up indigenous cultural artefacts...
It's mostly been lit on purpose buy people on the ground exactly where the high speed train is to go Two birds with one stone
Woke ‘experts’ kowtowing to globalists & communists in academia still pushing fake narratives....no wonder ScoMo, Boris, Trump win the people’s vote!
Give it up. Coronavirus is the new excuse for totalitarianism. Get with the times.
So we are bringing it back to climate change once again? Does nobody want to bring up the fact that the affected areas were not properly managed with FULL hazard reduction burning in the first place or is everyone purposely ignoring that because it doesn't fit any agendas?
Luvvies blaming non-existent climate change again.
Yeah, lock up the fire bugs!.
