Prime Minister Scott Morrison capitalised on the success of the global An0m sting to push for more police powers, which legal groups say pose serious privacy risks

Flanked by top police officials in front of custom printed ‘Operation Ironside’ branding, Prime Minister Scott Morrison used a global organised crime sting to make the public case for stronger police powers.

“There is a series of pieces of legislation that we’ve been seeking to move through the Parliament, not just in this term, but in some cases over three terms. They need these powers to do their job,” he said last week, as the AFP commissioner also encouraged MPs to pass the laws. Former spy chief Dennis Richardson, who led ASIO between 1995 and 2006, is among those sceptical of the need for more police disruption powers. His extensive four-volume review of national security legislation in 2019, which predates the“There is much the AFP can do under its existing powers, with technical assistance and support from Australian Signals Directorate. We are unconvinced that a more specific disruption mandate, or additional powers, are needed,” the Richardson report said.

is the latest in a line of troubling laws that expand state surveillance. Even in that context, this bill is particularly shocking because it is so broadly-worded, and lacking in safeguards, that it encompasses any and every Australian,” Human Rights Law Centre senior lawyer Kieran Pender says. “You really need to be very careful before you extend police powers as attractive as it might sound in the first place,” Palmer says.

Young is in a better position than most to shed light on the precise nature of Australia’s role. Not just because of his leading role in the An0m operation from its infancy, but because he bowed out from the investigation in August 2020 to become a partner at a San Diego law firm. But even in the relative freedom of the private sector, Young remains tight-lipped about whether the US looked upon Australia as an ideal legal playground to test drive the An0m platform.

With absolute respect that is tripe Morrison used it as photo op and diversion .

Morrison and the 'Liberals' take another step down the path to authoritarianism. The AFP shoild not be trusted. They illegally seize & destroy international mail & have done so for over a decade.

Scomo wants to be dictator and thinks he has Devine right

His government’s actions are the actions of a tyrant- indefinite detention, secret trials, the incarceration of children, the prosecution of satirists under terrorism laws, and surveillance powers, are all actions that show his utter disregard for democracy. He should resign.

He is using Australia as the 'Saudi' for the US, where as their laws are more stringent, here the VASSAL simply acts as a water-board for the US.

Remember when AusFedPolice told us Ironside dismantled the NSW criminal syndicates? And remember how 9 days later there was a gang killing in the streets of Sydney? Maybe they don't really need those expanded powers for communications infiltration. auspol nswpol

'The states are not acting in our national interest' | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Gary Hardgrave says the states 'are not acting in our national interest' and though Scott Morrison is not looking for a stoush with the states, 'what do they need to do before he does take them on?'. \n\n'Some of the states are out of control and the PM needs to bring a Team Australia unity back. We are not in this together,' he said.\n\n'States are not rewarding the vaccinated, they still want to close borders at will and in Queensland's case bring in an entry application permit process which is unconstitutional.\n\n'Then there's the failure of Queensland and WA to loudly disclose the fine print on the COVID Apps as the data they collect will be administered by Amazon and Microsoft.\n\n'We all know Victoria sold its soul to Beijing, failed their citizens through a corrupted hotel quarantine process which killed hundreds, and tonight some districts are in the stone age with no power or water following a storm. \n\n'But what about the WA's Premier's criticism of our PM's ramped up concerns about our national sovereignty being challenged by China? Now Mark McGowan has been praised by Beijing for trying to undermine our PM.'\n\n The states are doing ScottyFromMarketing's job for him, Greg. But only because he's so useless at it. I have been told Gary_Hardgrave is the guy you can hire to root a goat at Bucks-Parties.. is this true..🐐❤️❤️💕!!! Needs an election win before he toughens up to the out of control premiers. The same shit show will confirm at least another 12 months

Unsurprising Labor states are 'cosying up to China' given they're all 'authoritarian states' | Sky News AustraliaClinical Psychiatrist and Author Tanveer Ahmed says it is unsurprising places like Queensland, Western Australia, or Victoria are 'cosying up to China' given they were already quickly 'turning into authoritarian states'.\n\n'Those three places, in particular, they're effectively closer to the Chinese model these days. They want to impose on ordinary human freedoms, they're using the pandemic to extend their powers at every turn, often unjustifiably,' he said.\n\n'Obviously there's an economic interest and there's a strong political interest. You get the feeling states are on to a winning formula by poking the federal government at every opportunity.'\n\n More that WA and QLD basically sell all their resources to China and Vic relies entirely on selling them apartments. Do you all manage to keep a straight face when you write this crap ? Does clinical psychiatrist and author Tanveer Ahmed wear a tin foil hat ? Serial plagiarist Tanveer Ahmed now rehashing the Murdoch propaganda. Has this guy ever had an original thought ... ?!
