A coalition of 23 fire and emergency services say the government is trying to gag debate on climate change.

Former fire chiefs from across Australia have accused the government of trying to gag debate on climate change which they say is"supercharging" bushfires. from every state and territory gathered in Sydney on Thursday to call for a climate emergency to be declared, insisting that harder-to-control fires have broken out earlier-than-normal across New South Wales and Queensland because of global warming.

"This fire season is going to go for months, so do we just simply get gagged? Because I think that's what's happening," he told reporters on Thursday.NSW mayor slams deputy PM’s 'insulting' climate change attack during bushfires The group first requested a meeting with the prime minister in April, and have finally locked in a meeting with Natural Disaster and Emergency Management Minister David Littleproud. Alan Jones was quoting figures that show about 90% of the fires were either Arson, Accident , Stupidity , & about 10% naturally , climate change didn’t rate a mention ! Can we please move on !

That’s why ‘Former’ chiefs are speaking out not current.

margokingston1 Gagging the Government would be better. So obsolete.

The 23 are all paid activists. Just ignore them.

Using the bushfires as a funding opportunity is grotesque - Climate Council should lose tax deductible status for this shallow act.

Given the stupid blame game and hysteria by the climate change cult is it any wonder that a bit of common sense is called for?

d0wnunda I do say that right now the fire is more important than the climate change. So I do agree with the government.

Is that 23 former fire and emergency chiefs who also have ties to the Climate Council?

Retired Monash University researcher Packham says global warming is a gradual process which doesn't explain major bushfires & talks about loads . Maybe its a number of things? How do tell the difference between climate change fires & ordinary bush fires? .

Where ar the PROTESTERS--ALL TALK--NO INTENTION OF AID‼️ The Fire Fighters NEED FOOD - WHERE R U‼️ DON'T PROTEST EVER AGAIN- WHEN THE CHIP'S R DOWN- U JUST IGNORE THE ASSIST ON CLIMATE‼️

We don't have 'Fire Chiefs' in Australia. Stop with the lazy americanisation of our language

Look at these hippies.

political_alert An open mind by everyone would help to depoliticising the discussion. Please consider all the issues, the answer is not as simple as controlled burn hazard reduction nation wide. Think about it.

Strange then why SBS removed it's article quoting a leading Climate Change expert, which he said linking NSW bushfires to Climate Change was 'nonsense', now why would you do this ?.

Hi are you trying to gag debate ? Why did you remove this article ? Do you no longer stand by your own work or are you taking an ideological stance instead of reporting ?

Only what the COAL-ition says matters 🔥

SBS News @SBSNewsWatch now as former Australian fire chiefs unite to demand the government act now against the 'urgent threat' of climate change What a bunch of radical, inner-city lefties. Voices of sanity. ScottMorrisonMP will be mightily pissed off. Climate change didn't start these fires. Not allowing safe fuel reduction burns in winter is more of a possible cause than climate change. Climate change is no where near as bad as saint Greta and fellow extremists want you to believe.
