An emergency warning is active for a fire that has jumped containment lines in South Australia's south-east.

An emergency warning is active for a fire that has jumped containment lines in wild weather.

The Coles, Elad Road bushfire was burning uncontrolled in a bluegum forest and burning westerly toward Conmurra Road. The CFS said the fire had broken containment lines and multiple spotfires had started to the west of the fireground. More than 165 firefighters, including strike teams, worked to halt the spread of the fire burning in the Coles area in bluegum plantations before it jumped containment lines.

"That spot occurred in one unburnt section of bluegum timber plantation and the fire has escalated dramatically under those conditions that we've been battling all day," Mr Loughlin told ABC Radio Adelaide."This fire is being driven and generated by these fuel loads and dynamic conditions, and we have reports that the fire is spotting up to 10 kilometres ahead of the head of the fire, which is making it very difficult.
