But it will be flatly rejected by Opposition Leader Peter Dutton and almost everyone in the Coalition because they cannot find a way to rebuke their former leader without condemning his time in power. The problem is that his legacy is their legacy, too.
The result? The censure will be passed anyway, Morrison will be shamed and Dutton will be tangled with the former prime minister in defeat. The message from Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will be that the Coalition refuses to admit the mistake of the secret ministries.
The censure motion presents the same challenge but in a much more personal and powerful way. Abandoning an old policy would be easy compared to abandoning a former leader.because his moves undermined the integrity of government. On the face of it, there should be support in the Coalition for a vote to reprimand him for what he did.
One Liberal, Bridget Archer of the Tasmanian seat of Bass, is still considering which way to vote. But Andrews, who was so critical of Morrison, regards the motion as a stunt. Warren Entsch, a Liberal who goes his own way when he feels the need, will not for vote it.
