A man who admitted to chasing a student paramedic before punching her in the face and leaving her with a fractured eye socket has avoided jail.
Joshua Burke, 22, pleaded guilty to a string of charges including intentionally cause injury, damaging property and possessing cannabis.Joshua Burke arrives at the Melbourne Magistrates Court in Melbourne, Tuesday, October 22, 2019.Burke was convicted and ordered to serve a 24-month community corrections order, with 300 hours of community service and to engage in programs to assist his rehabilitation.
He admitted he bashed an emergency services worker. The Attorney General of this Lilly livered Govt must appeal this decision
This judge is intentionally supporting violence against women. She is sending a clear message that women’s safety is nothing and that there will be no consequences for men who bash women. She’s worse than the offender.
Why?
How. It’s about time our judge were made more accountable and start sacking them. Anyone else who are as incompetent as they are would have been sacked ages ago
What a disappointing, but not surprising, result. Shows a lack of respect to our paramedics. It should be just as serious a crime to assault all our emergency personnel as it is to assault a police officer. They are all her to protect us.
Pathetic justice system on show again
Disgraceful no wonder our society is in ruins!! How does he not get jail
Please please name the judge and sack them ! Out if touch ! Daniel Andrews made a big statement about protecting essential service people. Thus is a total failure and the media should call him out on this !
This was a premeditated assault as Burke chased the young woman with the intention to inflict harm. Along with physical injuries he also caused her deep psychological trauma that'll be lifelong. If it was a man, would he have done this?
The problem is twofold. Firstly the more money that you can afford for your legal council the better your chances for a better verdict and/or lighter your punishment. Two -corruption within the legal system.
Seriously, WHAT!
That seems so wrong. It wasn't one decision. It was several and he had the chance to stop at any point and chose not to. He deliberately chased down and assaulted her. Jail required.
how the fuck no jail court system has failed
Johanna Metcalf should have to undergo the pain suffered by the student and then see if she feels 'no jail' is ok.
should bash the magistrate Johanna Metcalf in the face. will we get the same sentence?
What a slimy nasty bast..d
I have so many questions like why did he chase her for starters.
Why isn’t he in jail?
🖕🏼🖕🏼🖕🏼
Yet for dv respondents all it takes is an accusation . No actual violence has to have occurred, or been proven , yet you can bash women out in public bloc with no corroborating repercussion. What is wrong with this scenario ?
More of Daniel Andrews failure!
Victorian courts screw it up again. Courts need to protect our essential service workers
What a piece of work . 👎👎
Just so pathetic, young thug turned loose, young woman after suffering the pain and agony of her injuries has to endure her assailant being set free. Twice she is a victim, once to the brainless feral thug and now the mongrel Justice system.
Nothing new here, judge's and magistrate's don't give a rats about the violence in Australia. Why would they, tucked away in their safe little rich world.
His mother must be so proud - what a stunning example of parenting.
attacking ambulance officers or firies should carry a mandatory 5 years in a really horrible prison and a $1000000 fine to be paid to the victim
Not good enough and it sends the wrong message.
How do these cowards get away with it?
Unbelievable... Justiceplease
Disgusting nojustice
Unbelievable!!
Pathetic 🤬
That’s bullshit.
Good on you Johanna now walk the 500 miles so you are far removed from any courtroom again, so you don’t humiliate somebody that may one day be forced to save your miserable life
Must be a really proud mother supporting her delinquent creature she bred
Disgraceful!
Surely this is a joke
Mandatory sentencing working well again
Piece of 💩
When will this leniency end? I don't understand it, is it like an office betting circle between the judges?
So absolutely no Justice. Assault needs to be treated more seriously. Especially as this is a road rage incident and assault of a woman. License suspension should also be involved because he used the car to commit the crime.
Grub.
Not exactly proving that the justice system actually gives any regard to protecting members of our emergency services let alone women and a student at that. It's deplorable.
😡🤬💩
How is this justice
What a coward
What a fucking joke
She has 'Form' for letting people off.
So this &$er chases a girl in his car for 10 kms, forces her to stop, punches her in the head and busts her eye socket...and he doesn’t go to jail 🤨🤬 DanielAndrewsMP What’s your view on this? You run this state...allegedly
Melbourne magistrate Johanna Metcalf has given a totally different sentence to that given to 3 youths earlier. They were jailed. What do the Police think of this?
Yet you fracture this knobs eyesocket and you get 4 years....ohbthe irony of pathetic Australian justice 🤬😡
WTF - welcome to the crime capitol of the world is it any wonder crime is out of hand when offenses like this walk away
Again the law soft . Meant to punish them for attacking a paramedic. Why bring out a law that never been used
Disgusting our courts let another victim down
Another thug getting away with assault - what more can I say..... :(
Surely such a poor sentence needs to be appealed
This male prick female basher deserves 10years minimum jail one for road rage two assaulting a student paramedic and he should be made to pay her medical bills and compensate her for injuries and pain and suffering
Welcome to Melbourne the 'reducing crime rate' capital of Australia. Dansworld where lawless criminals are protected and ordinary citizens are crucified. Vote Labor for ongoing lawlessness.
Another sentencing review for the attorney general. Changes to the justice system are overdue.
The award winning Australian justice. “All the way under”.
Disappointing, yet not surprising. Our “justice” system is a joke. What a hero, punching a woman hard enough to fracture her eye socket.
20 years sentence
Perhaps if she was a magistrate that got punched maybe just maybe jail time?
Why does anyone express surprise, it is Victoria, they let murders and rapists walk on bail there.
So much for laws protecting emergency workers!!! Joke!!
Weeping_Angel1 The courts failing law abiding citizens again. The delinquent should have gotten jailtime. courtfailure nojustice courtsworkforcriminals courtsdontprotectvictims
Well that’s not good enough. Why such a light penalty?
This isn’t a story about a paramedic being assaulted. It’s about a person assaulting another person who happens to be a female. Doesn’t matter her job or her sex... it’s unacceptable.
Another failure by the judiciary. They're thumbing their noses in our faces.
OUR LAW IS AN ASS
sickening
if he was a terrorist he would get more time. he behaved like a terrorist I hope her family sue him.
Weak as piss
god forbid, if i see you or your mum out on the street, i'm going to smash your smug faces with a baseball bat.
this is an example of another male getting aways with violence toward women. dvvic dvrcv DV_NSW womenssafetynsw safestepsFV he should be treated as a terrorist
Why. Let him off
Not good enough! Why should someone just doing their job cop an assault! Paramedics work hard enough and are not paid nearly enough for what they do and they are exposed to violent attacks? Heavier punishments are needed to deter offenders otherwise NO MORE PARAMEDICS!
can't beat the good ol' Aussie courts and their harsh penalties
