Macquarie University researchers have found a link between drinking while breastfeeding and lower NAPLAN scores after looking at health and education data from more than 5000 students

New research has linked drinking during breastfeeding with lower academic results in children.

There was no impact on numeracy results, although the research, published in the International Journal of Nutrients, did not examine why. The impact may also reduce over time, said the lead author, psychologist Louisa Gibson."Looking at both Year 3 and Year 5 NAPLAN results, there was a statistically significant effect in the spelling, writing and grammar scores in Year 3, but by Year 5, the results were only significantly different in spelling," she says.

"Since the consumption of alcohol can also reduce the production of breast milk as well as a child's sleeping patterns, it is possible that nutritional or sleeping changes are the cause of the reduction."

PM should ditch his proposed 'Bob Hawke style wafflorium' on IR reform | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Rowan Dean has urged Prime Minister Scott Morrison to jettison his proposed round table on industrial relations reform and instead honour his election promise of delivering “smaller government, less regulation, lower taxes, crushing the unions and freeing up the job market.”\n\n This week the Prime Minister announced the Coalition will bring together unions, business groups and employers to discuss what changes can be made to industrial relations laws, in a move that was reminiscent of Labor PM Bob Hawke’s 1983 Prices and Incomes Accord.\n\nSky News understands Mr Morrison has spoken with ACTU Secretary Sally McManus, who has expressed her desire to come to the table to get the deal done.\n\nMr Dean said while Mr Morrison’s instincts are normally spot on, he should ditch the “Bob Hawke style wafflorium.”\n rowandean ScottMorrisonMP if morrison took notice of every bit of advice from rowan dean the country would be well and truly f***. the guy has shown many times he's not all there in the head rowandean ScottMorrisonMP I do not agree with rowandean . The first step to making the boat go faster is to achieve consensus on the direction the boat is going and then jettison anything that is not needed , otherwise the headwinds will be too strong and the boat wont go fast enough. rowandean ScottMorrisonMP Rowan Dean - you don't know what you're talking about.
