The world number one could be deported within hours. But he’s vowed to fight on in court. What legal options does he have left? And why did the minister intervene to kick him out? ImmigrationMinister Djokovic DjokovicOut NovakDjokovic AlexHawke

Even as the first appeal ruling came down on Monday, the department warned it could still cancel Djokovic’s visa again. He had won on grounds of procedural fairness – he hadn’t proved his exemption was valid. Minister Hawke said he would consider using his own sweeping powers as minister to cancel his visa – a move notoriously difficult to overturn.“That’s big,” explains immigration lawyer Karyn Anderson.

About twenty minutes before the minister announced his decision on Friday evening, Djokovic’s lawyers were told and then shortly after served documents. Djokovic was asked to present for an interview with immigration officials the following day.

In court, Djokovic can also argue that cancelling his visa in this way, without natural justice, is not in the national interest. In the late-night court hearing, further detail of the minister’s reasoning for the cancellation emerged. Djokovic’s lawyers said the government had cited the potential for the player to stir up anti-vax sentiment in the community as a concern. But Djokovic’s lawyers argued they could have no way of knowing what effect his deportation would have on anti-vaxxers.

paulsakkal Fight on Novak

Deport… funny how fast the Courts are with rich white privileged vs refugees 💁🏻‍♀️

I guess the good thing about the BananaRepublicOfScomo is that any incompetent prick wishing to kiss the ring can become a minister or, at least, a DeportationMinister.

paulsakkal LACOSTE will you end your sponsorship with Djokovic? He’s seen as an anti vax poster boy and everyone knows it, he has so much influence and power to help with this pandemic instead his intentions just rallies up the anti vaxxers

And once again Morrison has thrown a dead cat on the table and as usual the media all rush over and begin asking the dead cat for its opinion. Australian media is pathetic.

paulsakkal 全世界的媒体你们她妈的都疯了

Shame shame for you Australia. Vaccinated or not, people can get the virus and spread it around . With or without Djokovic, Australian Open is at risk that attendees can get infected. You may as well cancel the event. What a shame!

hehe, down under banana republic, isolated from normal people. Big prison...

Esto es lo que yo pienso:

It is time for the Australian government to resign due to the scandal

The case is transferred to Federal Court. Does it mean a different Judge will be hearing the case? Judge Kelly is a member of the Federal Circuit Court.

If he genuinely had Covid in December then he is much more vaccinated than those vaccinated with a needle. That’s what most of the research is showing.

LACOSTE when will you finally terminate your contract with the antivaxxer and dishonest DjokerNole ? For sure not the best reputation for the Lacoste brand DjokovicOut AusOpen boycottLacoste

So I can attend the open unvaxed?

And why did the minister intervene to kick him out? ..... The Minister was given the task, even before Novak came, that it must, in any way, to prevent Djokovic from winning for the 10th time because then Australia must place a bust of Djokovic in front of the arena.

ermmm let me think… no options - get vaccinated or home home, you’ve broken more rules than you can afford already

Think this is one of those readtheroom moments that ppl on SM bang on about & it appears that ImmigrationMinister alexhawke has checked SM & readtheroom that the loudest voices say No. Will alexhawke also be deporting the person who granted the original visa from their job?

The minister intervened because he needs votes in the next election!!!! BoycottAustralianOpen

The Minister intervened because Morrison’s focus groups and phone polling decided to swing him towards booting the selfish tennis shithead out. Now only if he’d spend as much energy on climate change and COVID issues in Australia 🤦‍♂️

He won't be deported. Judge Kelly will save him. He is a pro-Djokovic. Otherwise doesn't make sense how expedite justice works for riches and famous people in Australia. Is he treating the same asylum seekers with the same speed?

He better hurry up and finish his covid party.

Good, the smoke screen is going and the Wizard of Aus, the pathetic little man, will be exposed. Life imitating art.

While Hawke is at it, he should resign given it was his department who issued the visa despite the no vaccine no entry rule. He let him fly here. DjokovicOut HawkeResign auspol MorrisonFailure FuckHillsong

Just go home. 🤬🤦😷💉

'In a country where 93% are vaccinated and there are 50,000 infected daily, you refuse a visa to a healthy person because it is in the interest of public health. No, it's not a joke.'

C'mon - he will not be deported within hours... it's not even on the cards... stop your crappy reporting.
