Australian government defends handling of women’s safety plan after opening up consultation for a fortnight in summer

Former political staffer Brittany Higgins has criticised the federal government for offering “two weeks to map out the next 10 years of the fight against gendered violence”.Former political staffer Brittany Higgins has criticised the federal government for offering “two weeks to map out the next 10 years of the fight against gendered violence”.The federal government has defended its approach to a decade-long women’s safety plan after initially opening the consultation period for only two weeks.

The minister contacted state and territory ministers who make up the women’s safety taskforce over the weekend and they jointly agreed to extend the consultation timeline. An open letter signed by prominent women’s rights advocates, community leaders and union heads, had called for the consultation period to run for at least six weeks.

“This grossly inadequate deadline came amidst a national pandemic, an over-worked sector and exhausted workers, and in the middle of school holidays,” social services spokesperson Linda Burney said. The Domestic Violence Crisis Service says it wants the plan to deliver a more inclusive approach to ending violence in the community by focusing on the voices of people with lived experience.

Why is it that I feel total disbelief when Linda Reynolds speaks? Indeed, that she comes out from her bunker and delivers a word salad of deception? Somebody help me here.

Love the way it's always the fault of the 'States and Territories'.

Home testing for NSW students part of back to school planAs part of a NSW Government strategy for controlling the spread of COVID-19 when school resumes, students may be required to undertake at-home rapid antigen tests twice a week. DETAILS: COVID19 9News Test kits would be distributed to parents, who would then supervise their children's testing before the start of class. However, there are concerns over the number of kits required for the plan to roll out, with about 24 million RATs needed for Term 1. 9News 👀 “One other idea being flagged is that when teachers are sick, parents could be called in to help supervise students in class rooms.” What about the psychological affects of this lifestyle you are pushing onto your kids.
