Coalition MPs who support the abortion bill are prepared to consider "sensible amendments" to the draft laws to ensure terminations are removed from the criminal code.
Shooters, Fishers and Farmers' MLC Robert Borsak was joined by Liberal Matthew Mason-Cox and Labor's Courtney Houssos and Greg Donnelly in releasing their amendments on Wednesday. "In my nine years as a member in this Parliament, I have never seen a more flawed and rushed process, especially in relation to an issue that deals with life and death, the result of which is what we have before us now," Mr Borsak told MPs in an email.with 19 of the party's 35 MPs voting against itIt was expected to pass the upper house next week but a lengthy debate over amendments is now likely, and if passed amended, it will need to return to the lower house.
But the Liberal said there was a feeling that they were being held to ransom by Mrs Davies and Mr Conolly's threats of defecting.Another Nationals upper house MP said they were "comfortable with the bill as it is but would consider reasonable amendments if that's what it takes."
