Queensland is likely to face years of COVID-19 outbreaks "every few months", Chief Health Officer John Gerrard says, as the state battles hospital bed shortages amid increasing cases driven by the new Omicron sub-variants.
"These waves are likely to continue off and on every few months for some time to come," Dr Gerrard said.Dr Gerrard said the state's current third wave would could peak at the end of the month, or even in August, with the potential for COVID-related hospitalisations to exceed the 1,000 mark. Australian Medical Association of Queensland president Maria Boulton said more beds were needed now.
"We're also advocating for other solutions … to help us with ambulance ramping and the bed block in our hospitals.
Then build more hospitals and stop discriminating against unvaccinated workers.
Isn’t the CHO’s job to stop this from happening? Not to shrug and say “there's no way around this.' I mean what are we paying this guy for?
Regardless of futher waves to come --- and they will .. Its all about here and NOW .. Dont make out like it's ' mild ' ..thats bs . And Its a no brainier..if your not in a N95-P2 mask 😷 as a collective..covid will be costing the eccomany with LC ..cant work 👍🤡
A good education campaign around masks even when they were mandatory, could have helped avoid this.
This man's lack of foresight - something required in an executive position- will one day be the subject of an investigation.
