Victoria has confirmed a further 22 cases of coronavirus, including 19 linked to a Melbourne meat processing plant.Victoria's Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton has defended the decision not to name the meatworks
He said the outbreak was "not a risk to the general community and it's not going to get out of control" Victoria tested a record 13,000 people for coronavirus yesterday, meaning the state is on track to meet its goal of 100,000 tests by the end of this weekAside from the cases linked to the abattoir, two of the new cases were returned overseas travellers who were quarantined in hotels.Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton defended his decision not to name the meatworks, saying this was "not part of what's required for us to do our work".
Professor Sutton said that was because schools were places "where a lot of community members might go, where we can't identify those individuals for the purpose of contract tracing".
Another example of fear tactic. This testing is a farce it does not prevent infection or responsible for cure.
Our power hungry Vic Premier at work. Why no control from his caucus? He is out of control. Destroyed our State .
This is a failure of process. This cluster originated from people who were in hotel quarantine for 2 wks, released without testing. Govt knew people could be asymptomatic, therefore not to test is highly negligent. too busy restricting rights of the masses
The government is targeting the wrong demographic.
That meat works recently flew a plane load of lamb over to wuhan. What are the odds?
Great! Not! I am a relief teacher in Victoria. We'll we ever get back in the classroom? Thank goodness for Centrelink. wagesubsidyforall
This is the result of finally increasing testing in Vic. Until now Vic had one of the worst testing rates per capita in the country. Why Dan Andrews waited until now to increase testing is beyond me but it will reinforce his argument for continued lockdown.
Unsure why there was a delay in naming this meat works. The cover up is always worse than the crime
Places where victorians can expect a positive case found this week.. - nursing home - hospital - another teacher testing positive story - public transport worker - golf course worker Places you won’t hear a positive case from -Coles -Safeway -Bunnings -horse racing industry
Amazing Victoria has contributed 36 out of 37 positive cases Australia wide since the PM announced wanting to ease restrictions.. anyone else find that a huge coincidence? The state with the strictest restrictions has contributed 97% of the country’s postive cases..
Disappointed that the CHO doesn't think the community needs to know who this meatworks is. Victorians have been very compliant, and very understanding of our elected officials' choices. Show us some respect and let us make choices too. Withholding info feeds the rumour mill.
Anyone who thinks the last 3 days numbers aren’t doctored merely as a way for Andrews to continue the lockdown is blinded by fear and stupidity.. Victoria will not be out of state of emergency til July.. all victorians are being played for fools 😂.. and we let this fool do it
Let me guess, a Chinese owned company? Like Tyson food in US who seem to be unusually prone to CV infections.
This may well highlight the extremely poor standard of hygiene that is observed at all Australian meat works. Whilst far in advance of Asian meat works, regularly washing everything down with water does not make it hygienic or safe.
Given the coronavirus strain thrives in cooler environments it's not surprising to see a cluster in a meatworks. Get ready for when it comes back while we move in to Winter, lockdown or not.
COVID-19 or a coronavirus? Interesting for a state with the harshest lockdown arrangements.
It’s all about politics, just like an episode of Yes Minister🤔 Happy to name a school with one case where there has been no spread, because it suits the govt agenda, but they hide 19 cross contamination cases at a meat works with a retail shop😐 Dan the dud👎
Money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money
Hahaha.....the state with the 'strictest lockdown' now has the highest number of new cases. Conclusion: lockdown is useless in preventing a prevalent infection.
tyrelle123 There seems to be a lot of questions to be asked as to why this place has not been named (earlier) and seems to be very much mishandled - shifty DanielAndrewsMP at it again little by little this bloke will hang himself (school named)
working in cold rooms with large amounts of water or modern western wet markets might be a show of substandard WHS standards by the owners which is a constant problem for those chassing huge profits over worker safety, yet plenty of 427 workers just ask Rockhampton x-meat workers
Dictator Dan will be loving this.
Plus 2 who were returns from OS and were already in quarantine
And Tehan was arguing for reopening schools? It's still obvious too early for anything.
It’s too bad the halal meat factory is having an outbreak
