Digital contact tracing seems to have gone the way of the dinosaurs as the coronavirus pandemic has evolved, but overseas, educators are thinking about new ways to share COVID information that could change the way we approach future outbreaks.

But Professor Loh says missing some of those interactions doesn't reduce NOVID's capabilities.

NOVID is less concerned with capturing interactions with say, the stranger next to you in line for the bus, and more focused on the people you frequently interact with.NOVID doesn't collect names, locations, emails or phone numbers from its users. It randomly generates a pseudonymous ID for each user and sends encrypted information about which other users they come into contact with back to a centralised database.

So far, NOVID has been adopted in a few universities and cities around the United States, with varying degrees of enthusiasm. "There's other features that we never even got to see, because we kind of wound down the effort of promoting it here on campus.

If only the education department has the foresight to install this technology (with appropriate privacy constraints) in schools so that networks could be analysed to predict outbreaks and maximise optimum utilisation of RATs but that’s too sensible. covidfreeschools auspol

Queensland to release its COVID plan for schools, but will it include RATs for kids? Two weeks before the school year starts, the Queensland government is expected to reveal how it plans to reduce the risk of COVID in classrooms. But will it include regular rapid antigen tests for kids? Technically kids lessikeky to get Covid than elderly so available rats should go to elderly concession card holders first Just because something exists doesn't mean it's available. I would expect the tests to be supplied to schools and then passed onto students if it becomes a requirement. We can't find them anywhere in the shops and can't queue for days at the testing centers. It’s really hard once you make everything free market.” Pharmacy Guild means: why didn’t you give us an exclusive distribution deal, so we could make even more $$$’s from the government.
