Coles and Woolworths are accepting misshapen produce as part of a push to support Australia's drought and fire-affected growers.

The policy switch comes as fruit and vegetable suppliers in Victoria and New South Wales brace for potential produce shortages in the coming months as growers come to terms with the full impact of weather conditions on their stock. The Sydney Morning Heraldhe had "no doubt" the country would see future produce shortages due to the dry conditions."There will be some shortages obviously as a result of [the drought], but what extent I'm not sure," he said.

A spokesperson for Ausveg, an industry body for vegetable and potato growers, said drought and water access have caused significant issues for growers, but also noted there had been logistical difficulties brought on by bushfire-related road closures.

The issue here is food wastage. Will.

Ditch the plastic. And the bullshit that everyone wants utterly perfect produce.

First world problems

William_Bourke Be good if they took them out of those plastic bags too.

Thankful we have a vegetable garden and fruit trees at home, anybody can grow vegetables at home, even in apartments.

Harris Farm Markets has been doing this for ages. Cheaper for shopper and benefits framers. Less waste. Not just during low supply Johnny come lately like Coles and woolies need to do better

And not before time.

About effing time. Should be a new policy for ever for here on in

For too long we have been demanding 'perfect' fruit and veg, silly really and such a wicked waste of food.

Is that on top of the tired, bruised & tasteless stuff they already sell?

Harris Farm have been selling imperfect fruit and veggies for years. They taste just fine

woolworths how will this affect OzHarvest?

Oh, god. A deformed apple. This is the start of the end of times.

woolworths and Coles you can also drop all the plastic and extra packaging. It's beyond a joke. becorporateresponsible

Look, deformed apples are the least of my concerns..

At last. They're always too big and too sweet as well. Can we get used to unsprayed apples too?

I get mine for less than half the price at the fruit and veg market. Fresher, tastier and lasts longer. Anyone who buys f&v from these 2 needs their head read. Don't have the time? Grab a mirror.

hope the plastic people are cool with this.

Hopefully without all the plastic for a change!
