Coles supermarkets are suspending online shopping to all customers except the isolated and vulnerable. 9News

Coles stores are following Woolworths lead by introducing a "community hour" from this Wednesday.

"This temporary measure will give those with a disability the opportunity to shop before our stores officially open - helping them obtain the essential items they need most in a less crowded environment," Woolworths Managing Director Claire Peters said. The supermarket giant also plans to recruit 5000 additional casuals to improve getting stock to customers and keeping stores clean and safe.

Stores will only trade between 7am and 8pm on weekdays to allow for more efficient stock replenishment out of trade hours.

Elderly and disabled to get dedicated shopping hours at Woolworths, online delivery suspendedWoolworths stores will begin a dedicated hour for vulnerable members of the community on Tuesday, as the supermarket suspends its home delivery service due to 'extraordinary' demand Good Doesn't that put a lot of high risk folks in one place at the same time? What about those who cannot get to the supermarket because of disability? Perhaps Woolworths can add an online shopping option only for those who cannot go to the supermarket in person due to disability. Unfortunately that will mean policing these requests.
