Deanne and Rachel Elliott are part of a study of thousands of sets of twins aimed at finding what boosts resilience during the pandemic.

As Melbourne hunkers down for its first weekend of the new lockdown, the sisters' statement – that closeness helped them through – has implications for us all.

“Close social relationships – whether family, friends or housemates – are having a big impact on people’s positive or negative experiences,” says Professor John Hopper, director of Twins Research Australia, which is based at Melbourne University and is conducting ongoing research on more than 3500 twins and triplets for the Twins Research Australia COVID-19 Knowledge, Experience, Reaction and Resilience study.

The study of twins is used to gauge how people generally are faring as it offers a built-in "control" and eliminates many variables present in studies of the wider population.Professor Hopper said the first results of the TRACKERR research showed knowing there are people you can trust close at hand gave people confidence and optimism in a time of increased anxiety and produced higher "resilience scores" and lower negative impact on mental health.

How the ACT has defied Australia's high unemployment rateThe ACT has defied national unemployment trends with the help of the resilience of the nation’s public service who were called on to support Australia’s coronavirus response. Could it be linked to the fact that most work in the public service? What are the stats if you take the public service out? So being stoned is a job now? Bewildering that a story about the low unemployment rate in CBR only mentions the federal public service, and not a word about the actgovernment's Jobs For Canberrans program that's created hundreds of jobs specifically for vulnerable people who lost work due to COVID19

Match Highlights: Broncos v BulldogsThe Broncos host the Bulldogs during Round 9 of the 2020 NRL Telstra Premiership Anyone mentioned to Stofm their sponsors Tigerair no longer exist. timetogetnewjerseys Thomson forgot he doesn’t play for saints in ESL anymore, can’t use the shoulder charge and get away with it 😂 If this is all the Broncos have...well they may as well not turn out against a half decent team. Dogs were disappointing, Broncos were very ordinary. If Hass and Pangai didn't play Broncos were screwed. Be interesting how they front up against the Tigers next week.
