One commuter said the ExtinctionRebellion traffic block on Hoddle St was frustrating, even though he supported climate action. 'Does it have to be at peak hour?' he asked. 'It makes me a little against the cause in a way.'

About 35 cyclists took off from Carlton Gardens about 7.30am and blocked intersections on Hoddle Street, in Collingwood.

The bike brigade blocked the intersection of Hoddle and Gipps streets for about three minutes, before taking off. The group chanted "climate action now" as police swooped around them. Police were following the group as they made their way down Gipps Street."Like the suffragettes and the civil rights movement in the US, I have come to understand that acts of civil disobedience is what people need to do to get the government to act," Mr Gome said.

"People are becoming ill and dying because of climate change. It’s happening now and will continue. The inconvenience to people from climate change is far greater than people being a few minutes late to work." One commuter said the traffic block was frustrating, even though he supported the climate action cause.LoadingAnother motorist stopped at the traffic lights said he was already late for work and this would make him later.

Riders handed out pamphlets to drivers, which detailed their push for the government to act on climate change.

Climate activists disrupting citizens does not make sense.

Blocking traffic on probably the busiest bus lane in the city, inconveniencing people who are reducing their footprint by using PT? Cool.

DO SOMETHONG ABOUT THIS INTERUPTION! MOST OF THEM ARE PEOPLE THAT SEEK ATTENTION BECAUSE THEY DON'T GET IT AT HOME. 'LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME' AREN'T I A DICKHEAD SO TO SPEAK.

Solution: end capitalism now.

I defend anyones right to peaceful lawful protest, but don't undermine your cause by acting foolishly.

As if the impacts of climate change aren't going to inconvenience commutes to work 🙄

Like the vegan activists, this kind of shotgun approach tends to alienate more people than raise awareness or rally them to the cause. Both groups need to educate and persuade the masses rather than piss them off. Seems counter-intuitive to me..

But mah commute

Most believe in climate change. We just don’t think we are heading for extinction.

Why is this disruptive form of protest not bullying?

Tell them to ' Get a Job', pay taxes and the Government will have extra money in the Budget to take more action on climate change.

Anyone who supports these terrorists, this is your typical climate protester

Easily led and too much time on their hands........

Wow... only one person with something negative to say regarding it? It’s almost as if journalists are selective on how they report on issues. Nah... that can’t be true.

Gotta take our country back from these corporate puppets lining their pockets by selling out our future.

No it should be in the middle of the night, because it impacts you a little.

klimateowns

A ‘little’ inconvenience now or a huge inconvenience later. ExtinctionRebellion ActOnClimate NOW!

They are impacting the WRONG people, the people who need to see and be talking about 'climate action' are labelling this 'foolish' and it's no having impact. If it keeps up, this will turn into everyday Australians vs protestors....

The protest is relevant, but I think it should be held in Canberra, where most of the decisions,or lack of,are made

Lol if being mildly inconvenienced is enough to make you second guess action on climate change, then I hate to say it but you were probably against it from the start.

This poor man what a champion fighting first world problems. That's an extra hour of his valuable TV watching time they took from him.

And the world was eternally grateful, as extinction was saved due to the galant efforts of thirty priveliged unemployed white people, stopping traffic with bicycles! How did we not think of this solution before

You can be against Extinction Rebellion actions but still support action on climate change. I think ER are ok with that. Don’t conflate anti ER with anti action on climate change.

'Preventing human extinction is important, but not important enough to inconvenience me in the slightest'

Extinction Rebellion climate activists block city streets againOrganisers of the ExtinctionRebellion protes said about 45 people were arrested in Melbourne on Tuesday, including one of the Melbourne leaders, Reem Ramadan. Instead of attending the climate change action to scream, cause unnecessary disruption & blame governments, l planted 3 trees in my backyard yesterday & swept the footpath outside my house to clear it of the rubbish and butts others throw, so it doesn't end up in the waterways. klimateklowns Finely a death cult for atheist middle class drones.
