Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who spent the past week travelling around the Pacific, said further discussions were needed to 'shape more consensus on cooperation'.

The decision comes following a high-level meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and leaders from 10 Pacific Island nations in Fiji on Monday afternoon.

China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the nations had agreed on five areas of cooperation, but further discussions were needed. Picture: Getty Images "Don't be too anxious and don't be too nervous, because the common development and prosperity of China and all the other developing countries will only mean great harmony, greater justice and greater progress of the whole world."

"As always, we put consensus first among our countries throughout any discussion on new regional agreements," Mr Bainimarama said at a press conference with Mr Wang.

Australia needs to jump on the end of the UK’s Dreadnought submarine programme and get 4 for our protection against China’s global aggression! NTB

The Pacific leaders would be looking after their personal benefits than their people. After probably more than a decade of colonial and neo independence it should be clear to anyone that they do not benefit from users of coercive force than from genuine win-win relations.

Hopefully we will eventually have a government that has the balls to implement a nuclear deterrent ❤️🇦🇺
