Federal government frontbencher Jason Wood has been drawn into attacks on the Coalition's financial activities as Labor seized on revelations embattled MP Gladys Liu will act as a "celebrity" auctioneer at a cocktail party hosted by the assistant minister.
A recent invitation to the Pinnacle Club – which raised more than $120,000 for the party in 2017-18 – promotes Assistant Treasurer Michael Sukkar and Ms Liu as guests for an event in Melbourne on Monday, September 30.A spokesman for Mr Wood said he had managed his offices and expenses within the guidelines, and argued many Labor MPs had done "exactly the same thing".
Labor's Senate Leader Senator Penny Wong speaks in reply to Minister for Finance Mathias Cormann's statement on Liberal MP Gladys Liu.It came as Labor senator Penny Wong hit out at the government on Wednesday for claiming the scrutiny of Ms Liu – who has also faced a string of questions over her loyalties and fundraising activities – was racially motivated.
