Cash only donations above $100 to political parties will be banned in NSW under new legislation that will make it the first state to introduce a cap.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced plans to ban cash donations above $100 to political parties.If the legislation is passed, NSW will become the first state to cap cash donations to political parties. The ICAC inquiry has heard claims that Chinese billionaire Huang Xiangmo, who was a prohibited donor at the time,The NSW Liberal Party was also recently revealed to have fallen foul of donation laws in relation to aat a fundraiser for Drummoyne MP John Sidoti in February 2015.
There are caps on annual donations in any form from a single donor at $6400 for contributions to a party or group of candidates and at $2900 for contributions to a single elected member or candidate.
