Embattled leader Carrie Lam says Hong Kong is equipped to handle its own situation as the region braces for further protests after a violent long weekend.

Hong Kong's embattled leader Carrie Lam says her administration had no plans to use colonial-era emergency powers to introduce new laws after a long weekend of violent protests saw widespread defiance of a ban on face masks.

She appealed to property developers and landlords to offer relief to retailers whose businesses had been hit. What started as an opposition to a now-withdrawn extradition bill has grown into a pro-democracy movement against what is seen as Beijing's increasing grip on the city, which protesters say undermines a"one country, two systems" formula promised when Hong Kong returned to Chinese rule in 1997.

Asked under what circumstances she would call upon Beijing for help to quell the protests, Ms Lam said Hong Kong should be able to find solutions on its own to manage the crisis.

Looked very relaxed in recent media announcement seems Beijing will come in and clean up the mess

It’s time for Carrie Lam to reached out UN for help. The criminals pledged to burn down Hong Kong and they are doing it. They did burn down several stores and a nursing home over the weekend. Where is law and Order?

The sad truth is, she is not in charge. She can’t even resign without approval from Xi. That’s why she is still here, basically doing nothing but adding fuel to fire. soshk antiELAB HongKongProtests
