As metropolitan Melbourne was sent back into stage three restrictions in early July due to rising virus infections, calls to the police line surged with an average of more than 2400 a day for the month.
“We get a lot of calls to our police assistance line, and the public’s been great in shaming those who aren’t doing the right thing, and we do respond to those,” he told 3AW on Wednesday. “I want to thank all those people who continue to use that as a way of letting police know where there may be concerns in our community.”
