Deputy Premier James Merlino has announced he will step down from cabinet and as deputy Labor leader, as he thanked his wife for being the “rock” of the family while he missed out on important milestones.
James Merlino and Martin Foley have announced they will retire, Lisa Neville and Martin Pakula are tipped to follow suit on Friday.
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Never seen before.......Mutiny against Chairman Dan.
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Great news, but what will they be replaced with, it scares me.
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah They've stepped down to give their replacement candidates time to campaign and the new minister to prove themselves before an election. Seems like competency to me. How is this a blow?
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Is there a new spot in there for Jeremy Maluta?
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Getting out before legal actions start?
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah It’s like it’s the first time a MP has stepped down or resigned. Signalled the decision a while back. Unlike the LNP, there’s plenty of talent to take their Cabinet spots. Unlike the LNP, none of them will land a plum job in New York via a dodgy appointment
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Good riddance
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Gotta say. Some of these been kicking around parliament for 20 years. Another term would be approaching a quarter century. I’d be pulling up stumps after that sort of stint.
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah That press conference sounded like a losing speech , let’s hope ! It’s up to all victorians now , never forget the longest lockdown in the world and a premier that set anti terror police onto unarmed citizens including firing rubber bullets at them. DanNext DanielAndrewsMP
geoffrey_payne sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Better than crashing through a fence and into a house
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Poor Victoria, taken over a cliff like lemmings by Chairman Dan ?
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah A major blow? The Age. Irrelevant. Always. springst
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Get the wannabe authoritarian Dictator Dan Andrews out next and charge the corrupt scum bag with crimes against humanity over the last 2 years!
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Bye Bye, you can be replaced.
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah So they aren't 'Standing with Dan '
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah One minister in particular is missing
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Considering that this was probably planned for weeks and it's being managed so that you have new ministers in place for the elections not sure it's a 'major blow'.
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Why is it a major blow? I'm sure they've had many discussions about it with colleagues and the Premier. It's just that they've made it public now. People are allowed to retire from their jobs. However Neil, some people don't recognise when their used by date is up!
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Immediately? No notice period? I 'notice' noone ever gets fired in government. They just get told to step down.
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Why is it a 'major blow for the state' when four tyrants who abused basic human rights, by placing six million people in home detention, without trial, decided to resign? Many would see this as a cause for celebration. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Even with these senior ministers stepping down, there’s still plenty of bench strength. The Victorian Liberals had to return a failure to Opposition Leader, and Tim “crashed into a fence drunk” Smith and David “drunken groper” Davis are their best bets.
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Very sad day for all Victorians! 4 really good & talented people will be sadly missed!
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Or maybe they’re just really tired after doing a very demanding job for so long, and it’s time for generational change from the very deep Labor bench?
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Author doesn't use the term 'major blow'.
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Rats fleeing a sinking ship. Love to see it.
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah I think they have noted the federal election results and understand the people in power during covid are tainted regardless of performance. They’re quitting while they’re ahead and strategically rolling in new faces to give the party a chance to win.
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah In a major blow! get over yourself Costello! The Vic Labor govt have a depth of talent to step in & take the spots of these retiring politicians! Unlike the LNP who didn’t have the guts or integrity to sack a minister who got blind drunk, drove & crashed into a kids bedroom!
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah They’re old. Who wouldn’t want to retire after the past 2 years?
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah It’s a shame, especially Merlino.
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah This is concerning. 4 ministers don’t just quit simultaneously without there being a serious issue at hand either they are running away from to avoid at all costs or they know something is coming their way & getting prepped for the ramifications.
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah I'm pretty sure a challenge must have occurred to Dan's leadership into the next election, those 4 did the challenge, and he booted them.
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah 'in a major blow'
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah The rats are deserting Dan's sinking ship? DanNext SackDanAndrews
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah It’s certainly not a major blow for the state - to have 4 complete garbage politicians fall on their swords is a very welcome development for the state SackDanAndrews dictatordan DanNext
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah This is such a ridiculous take on this! 4 senior old timer politicians have announced retirements prior to the election to make way for fresh talent. Renewal! 😍 This is epic news for Labor! Compare to Vic Lib dinosaurs. Another danslide election win coming! springst
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah This is not normal
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Does “blow” mean “relief” now?
sumeyyailanbey _Biancah Who could blame them. Imagine having Dan for a boss 🤮
