Burkina Faso's President, Roch Marc Christian Kabore, has reportedly been detained at a military camp by mutinying soldiers.The French Embassy in Burkina Faso said the situation was "confusing"Gunshots were heard late Sunday night near the President's residence in Ouagadougou and in the early hours of Monday a battle took place at the presidential palace while a helicopter flew overhead.
Several armoured vehicles of the presidential fleet, riddled with bullets, could be seen near the President's residence.Residents of the president's neighbourhood reported heavy gunfire overnight. A militant attack in November on a gendarmerie post in Inata, in the northern Soum region, killed 49 military police officers and four civilians.
The turmoil in Burkina Faso comes after successful military putsches over the past 18 months in Mali and Guinea, where the army removed President Alpha Conde last September.
