On Condor's Instagram account, which has 7.6 million followers, several users questioned the actress' planned appearance at the Cup given the revelations aired in last week's ABC"You mean the place they abuse horses? Please don't support this event. Taylor Swift pulled out of performing, you can, too. Take a stand for animals," wrote @lavndrdream.

Mega-star singer Swift was secured in September by the Victoria Racing Club to perform two songs on Cup Day. But the coup was short-lived with Swift withdrawing from the event less than two weeks later, also citing scheduling clashes with her Asian tour. So far, a replacement has not been announced. According to Racing Victoria, the Off the Track program "aims to facilitate the placement of retired thoroughbred racehorses in second careers".

A small levy on all prize money would be a good way to start a horse welfare fund. Horses that have raced should be looked after until they die.
