A building worker has said the construction union pressured his employer to sack him after he attended Monday’s violent protest at the union’s office

At least one building worker has already been sacked after attending Monday’s violent protest outside the CFMEU headquarters in Melbourne, and he has accused the construction union of pressuring his employers to lay him off.on condition of anonymity that he was sacked on Tuesday morning. He said he was not opposed to vaccination and had not been violent at the protest.

The worker, who is a CFMEU member with 25 years’ experience, said he had left-wing views and had received two COVID-19 vaccinations.“I went there to support the blokes, to support freedom and to support freedom of choice,” said the worker, who requested anonymity as he feared repercussions. The worker who was sacked said he feared he would be driven out of the industry and unable to support his family. He estimated well over 90 per cent of the crowd when he was there on Monday were building workers. “It was genuine angry workers.”

Thanks Unions for shutting the idiots down.

John Setka CFMEUJohnSetka pressuring employers to take his mates. He has regularly used bullying and violence as a tactic and created a culture where this behavior is approved. He cannot cry about that culture and behavior now.

Was going to comment but not worth it.

Good. The man was an arrogant self-entitled fool who represented his “protest” as seeking “freedom”. The only “freedom” he & his mates are seeking is the ability to harm innocent others by flouting safety rules & spouting anti-vaccination conspiracy lies. He deserved the sack.

Good. Why shouldn’t he get sacked?

Go and see your Union for representation on this one you definitely have a case. Oh wait. In that case maybe try a Lawyer. Oh wait, you jumped on their car yesterday. Bugger, see how communities work….

These guys are protesting for freedom to choose. So they say. Yet, they have that freedom already. Nobody is telling them they have to get vaxxed. There choice but with choice there are always consequences

Good. So he should

Sacking isn’t the answer, unless the worker is actively working against the role of the union in protecting the safety & working conditions of members, e.g., by refusing to be vaccinated. Setka is far from being the ideal union boss, but unions shouldn’t be tarred with his brush.

Excellent let’s hope they all lose there so called “jobs” - they deserve everything they get!

Being part of a union is to be part of seeking the best for the group and outcomes for all your brother's and sisters. Every union member is an an ambassador of that cause. I think this guy needs to reassess his fence sitting.🤔

Id sack them too! Especially if they were wearing work gear with your company logo. And there wasn’t 90% tradies. There were large amounts of people there pretending to be tradies. It’s been al over social media.

We're expected to feel sorry for him? What a fucking joke.

Now that’s weird

If he was one of the criminal rioters he should be charged by police as well.

But it’s about the virus! Riiiiiiiiight.

Unions look out for themselves and the wannabe politicians who run them. Their members are just a source of revenue.

Oh…. do actions have consequences?

No surprises there

Ok

He deserves whatever he gets including in all likelihood self inflicted Covid

So?

Good riddance!

Just a matter of time now. Melbourne government in chaos. There are more of you.

lol

There are jobs in the country picking fruit & vegetables.

What did he expect, a bonus!

GOOD

Here, here. Victoria has a plan to come out of lockdown, construction had been allowed and this guy was working, what's his beef? Hundred of thousands of Victorians would love to be working. Plus the possible spread of Covid by this nong. Cry me a river.

Sure. Because employers have a long storied reputation for acting on union demands really quickly. More faketradies bullshit.

Fantastic. Welcome to the real world. Your out of work actions have consequences on your employment.

And another several thousand to go. Police can use 'Stingray' towers to identify everyone at the rally. Every single person should lose their job. Stop sending in police - there is no point. Just cancel their fun tickets.

Cry us a river

OMGTheMess It’s a slippery slope. If it is widespread, we will give this community a significant number of very angry, unemployed and radicalised people.

Your building worker sounds like a bullshit artist. If they knew who he was they were probably close enough to see his face as he smashed their windows. You don’t attack your own union because some baby is too scared to get a jab.

CFMEU must be careful how they handle this.

OMGTheMess Good riddance

100% with the Union. Sack the thugs.

Heres your choice..this is your consequence

OMGTheMess The 50/50 polar opposite comments here really are something, pretty much sums up where we're at as a country right now

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Things you love to see

Good.

What !! ... smashing private property, breaking public health orders, intimidating people doing their job, rioting, assaulting the Police has consequences Who would have thought.

Ohh boo hoo!

In principle I don't agree with coercion like this. Whoever we've been under stay at home orders for three months. Have get one kid back from Melbourne but still separated from the other one. Millions in a similar situation. What were they complaining about again?

Good. Unions stand up for hard working people, so to see them stamping out the bad eggs that ruin their reputations good news!

Was he the one that kicked a dog or the one that trashed private property?

Sacking people for political decent is communist.

Serve him right.

Serves him right

I didn’t think there were any actual tradies at the demonstration. I thought they were all right wing anti vaxxers

Soooo, he fucked around and found out and that’s someone else’s fault?

If some construction workers want to align themselves with neo-Nazis then its difficult to have any sympathy for the situation.

The CFMEU’s true colours are coming out. Their militant bullying behaviour towards builders and subcontractors is now directed at their own members and they will be exposed for the criminal thugs they truely are.

Well deserved

Ohhhhh sooky baba.

Police out in force as protesters return to Melbourne for third day of demonstrationsWhile some attendees have been there to protest mandatory vaccinations for the construction industry, authorities say the demonstrators are not all union members or construction workers. Not demonstrations -riots. By thugs, fools and the gullible. It's FOUR days of rioting & menacing others. They were in Richmond for 7 hours on Saturday One wonders what the ' you can't tell us to get vaccinated' crowd would say if one of their children couldn't get badly needed treatment because the hospital's wards were full of covid patients.

Tradie protesters told to ‘go pick fruit’An outraged trades union boss has made a bold suggestion to workers who choose to cause carnage instead of protest peacefully. Union thugs This was not a protest... it was an organised piss up and riot 1 day he says they r not in the union, the next he says they wont get union jobs, then he says they should pick fruit. Is this what union protection paying about $800 a year in fees gets u? A guy being investigated 4 beating up his wife shouldn't be condemning others for violence

Melbourne cops brace for second day of protestsDozens of police are lined up outside the damaged CFMEU building in Melbourne after construction workers warned they will return to protest again until their demands are heard. Do not waver to holligans, violence. This isn't mainstream Australians nor Aussie values. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results Next step, martial law, the army against the people and the end of democracy. Then world govt like the China model.

Setka says 'morons' caused thousands of construction workers to be stood down as more protests loomUnion boss John Setka claims far-right activists were the organisers behind Monday's violent clash in Melbourne, which came hours before the state government plunged the city's construction industry into a fortnight lockdown. Yesterdays riot organised by far right groups. investigate further ABC. Craig Kelly, the LNP, liberal democrats, Q anon involvement. The Melbourne freedom rally morons told their followers to wear tradie clothes and are planing again today. Typical divide and conquer tactics. Redirect workers' anger against the people fighting for workers' rights and freedoms rather than the government. Yeh don't think Friday's dummy spit of closing tearooms, seeing Tradies taking tables & chairs out into the streets helped either! 😬
