Lifelong Collingwood supporter Paul Morgan has his issues with how the team is playing but he believes Nathan Buckley will depart as coach with his standing undiminished.that Buckley was stepping down as coach and would lead the team for the final time in this Monday’s Queen’s Birthday clash against Melbourne.Morgan felt there was some inevitability that the team would look to a new coach after 10 years with Buckley at the helm.
“My preference would have been back in 2011, after the loss to Geelong in the grand final, if he had gone to Mick Malthouse and Eddie McGuire and said ‘you are running a hot hand Mick, I can wait three years and my time will come’. On the ongoing issues with the club’s board, Morgan had some blunt advice for current president Mark Korda and challenger Jeff Browne.Tim Rothman
Magpies supporter Elizabeth Wilmott thought Buckley set the ideal example for how to handle a high-pressure role with humility.“I’m gutted from an emotional point of view and I would have loved to have won a flag for him,” Wilmott said. “The way he faces the media, he always faces some pretty tough questions and he takes all the back-stabbing and bitchiness out of it and just says it as it is.
