Alan MacSporran indicated the relationship with his Parliamentary overseers had collapsed and said he would step down as chairman of the Crime and Corruption Commission.

The Local Government Association of Queensland lobbied heavily against the CCC action and Mr MacSporran.

“Many people have urged me to continue in this important role, despite the recent finding contained in the [PCCC] report,” he said in a statement. “Investigating corruption and major crime is inherently complex. Those who are the subject of allegations and subsequent investigations can be persons with a high public profile. They frequently hold positions of power and the consequences of charges, let alone conviction, can be particularly grave.

The LGAQ on Tuesday said Mr MacSporran’s resignation was an “appropriate – albeit overdue – course of action”.
