A fundie founded on the science of investment is doing well against its benchmarks globally and in Australia. Its head of investment strategists says diversification is a key to success.

The word diversification comes up a lot in conversation with Wes Crill, the head of investment strategists at Dimensional, the global fundie with $US900 billion in assets under management.

Crill says that in measuring the performance of companies Dimensional focuses on its own measure of profitability. “If they were uninvestable I’d be surprised that their market capitalisation would be as large as it is in terms of their weight in emerging markets indices,” he says. “I think it’s important to have principles you can stick to because if investors are to react, switch up their asset allocation in light of these types of events, the data shows that can steer you the wrong direction.”
