A death in her family and a chance encounter with an Uber driver set Judith Lucy on a healing journey | peterwells

Judith Lucy is a national treasure. For more than two decades she’s been one of our finest stand-up comedians, painfully recounting her personal life for our entertainment. It seemed natural that she would eventually turn to podcasting. A few years ago, Lucy’s older brother died, and not long after her relationship ended – “in a spectacularly bad way” – and these stories started the journey of her trying to understand the world.

“Here's an extraordinary woman who, instead of wallowing in what's happened to her, has decided the way to get through this is to help other people. And you know, for a performer, that's unheard of!”Lucy took the advice and began tackling the big issues that she was seeing on the news every day; problems that had always seemed too large for her to make a difference. She began volunteering at a community centre that helps refugees, as well as a local ecocentre.

Anzac Day services join growing list of cancelled events due to coronavirusVarious Anzac Day services in Western Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania will not be going ahead. It’s a no- brainer. I imagine that there will be some kind of streamed - virtual commemorations. This is good news. Both of my grandfathers were/are diggers, & my dad was in the national service. I definitely feel protecting public health by cancelling the Anzac Day service is in fact the best way to honour our diggers & respect their sacrifices, past and present.
