Philippine boxing legend turned Senator Manny Pacquiao has announced he will run for president in next year’s election.

The 42-year-old was nominated by a faction of the PDP-Laban party on Sunday with Pacquiao saying the nation is ready for change.“We need progress, we need to win against poverty, we need government to serve our people with integrity, compassion and transparency.”

Earlier in the month incumbent president Rodrigo Duterte was nominated by another faction of the party to be the famed boxer’s vice-presidential candidate as he is banned by the constitution to seek more than one presidential term.
