A counter-terror operative tells Victoria's Coroner on Tuesday that Hassan Khalif Shire Ali's behaviour was 'more consistent with an active criminal' in the lead up to his stabbing rampage in Melbourne's Bourke Street in 2018.

The man who went on a stabbing rampage in Melbourne's Bourke Street in 2018 was not considered a serious threat because he liked to smoke cannabis and drink alcohol in defiance of radical Islam, an inquest has heard.Hassan Khalif Shire Ali's drug use was deemed inconsistent with extremism, a counter-terror operative told the inquest

"Shire Ali's involvement with Victoria Police indicated a propensity to use or possess or seek to possess illicit drugs," said the Victoria Police Security Intelligence Unit operative, who cannot be named."His use of cannabis suggested that he did not adhere to a strict interpretation of Islam." The rampage was only stopped after police shot Shire Ali in the moments after he fatally stabbed Melbourne restaurateur Sisto Malaspina.

Pellegrini's Espresso Bar co-owner Sisto Malaspina died after being stabbed by Hassan Khalif Shire Ali on Melbourne's Bourke Street.

Maybe the Police could look into the origin of the word 'Assassin'. Assuming they're literate, of course.

You named everybody except the lunatics/ lawyers who made the decision. Why not name the judges?

This 'operative' and any reference to intelligent should be mutually exclusive.

Imported crap.

A dangerous assumption.

Huh?

Courts question police practice yet seem to overlook multiple offences and bail. Breached bail, bailed again. Didn’t turn up to court, bailed again. Yep, clearly the fault of police.

The leftist activist justices “he’s one of us, go easy on him”

Please avoid inviting ridicule of Australia's security services personnel. These aren't issues that benefit from being reduced to the butt of jokes.

That don't make any sense . And I am assuming the Police made that decision!

What the duck are you talking about? Don't cry about credibility when this is what you put out.

The Vic Police are so corrupt they invoke a sense of Outrage of Public Decency.

Oops

Vic police.🤣. If he was a granny on a Park Bench... They could have easily tackled him to the ground... Take his phone... Saved the day!!.. They wouldn't mistake a serious threat like that.

That makes him an even bigger threat.

Greens voter ?

Yes weed (alone) chills you and you arent likley to smoke a joint then kill ppl... alcohol however is responsible for many murders and manslaughters... so huh?

And we could do without revisiting the photo. Massive (absent) trigger alert there.

We have to change policy.. we really have to let people leave the country if they want to commit terrorism somewhere else!!

'Bourke street attacker not considered a threat under terrorist laws.' Fixed it for you.

Really

This is utter bullshit.

That headline makes absolutely no sense, ABC have lost the plot.

Fkn arsehole...

so all future alcoholic potheads brandashing a knife in public should not be considered serious threats?

Makes sense to me.

You just have to look at just about any violent extremists to see that consistency doesn't mean squat. I mean damn, Elliot Rodger was a half-Asian White supremacist. Shire Ali's pot use shouldn't have lead police to ignore the evidence of his violent ideology.

So therefore extrapolating that only hardliners who don’t drink alcohol are the risk.
