Bottom line improving but cost of living bites

The budget bottom line is continuing to improve beyond expectations due to strong jobs growth, the federal government says.

“Given the tax cuts we’ve delivered for households and businesses, the strength of total tax receipts is further evidence of the resurgence of our economy.” On the downside, the cost of living has emerged as a key concern among voters with housing verging on the unaffordable for most and fuel and food prices escalating.

Campaigning in the crunch seat of Gilmore on the NSW south coast on Thursday, Mr Albanese homed in on the cost of living.
