Edinburgh court rules Johnson had an 'improper purpose' in suspending Parliament for five weeks: to prevent scrutiny of his no-deal Brexit plans.

Two weeks ago the Johnson government, through the Privy Council, obtained an order from the Queen to prorogue parliament for five crucial weeks in the lead-up to Brexit. The Prime Minister said it was in order to begin a fresh parliamentary session and present his government’s new legislative agenda.

Parliamentary scrutiny of the executive was a “central pillar of the good governance principle enshrined in the constitution,” Lord President Lord Carloway said. “This followed from the principles of democracy and the rule of law.” “The particular prorogation that had occurred, as a tactic to frustrate Parliament, could legitimately be established as unlawful,” Lord Brodie said. “This was an egregious case of a clear failure to comply with generally accepted standards of behaviour of public authorities.”

Boris Johnson's suspension of UK Parliament unlawful, Scottish court rulesThe highest civil court in Scotland finds in favour of more than 75 opposition MPs and Lords who had challenged the move to suspend Parliament. What a bloody mess. Poor Boris now has what he always thought he would want, the top job. Only to be faced with possibly the most challenging scenario to face any British PM since WW2. I wouldn’t trade places with him for all the money in the world! Wish they’d just stop Brexit altogether. It’s a stupid idea, pitched by idiots and grifters. Be gone!!!
