The news comes as a scathing report was released highlighting missteps by the planemaker and aviation regulators in the development and approval of the jet.

Boeing stripped Chief Executive Officer Dennis Muilenburg of his role as chairman, saying the move would enable him to focus on guiding the company out of the crisis engulfing its grounded 737 MAX jetliner.

Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg says his team is"laser-focused on returning the 737 MAX safely to service"."The board has full confidence in Dennis as CEO and believes this division of labour will enable maximum focus on running the business with the board playing an active oversight role," Calhoun said in the statement.

Regulators assessing the aircraft sometimes didn't follow their own rules, used out-of-date procedures and lacked the resources and expertise to fully vet the design changes implicated in two fatal crashes, the Joint Authorities Technical Review found. The report could also prompt a re-examination of automation, which experts say has led to erosion of flying skills among many pilots.

People still watch cricket!! I can't believe that. 😱

From Greta Thunberg to Julia Gillard: Here's who Australian girls say are their role modelsA report released for Day of the Girl has found there is no shortage of female role models for Australia’s next generation of leaders to look up to. This is concerning... Julia Gillard? Really? ewww The fact that Australian girls know or care who that US Congresswoman is is a failing of the media. Well done for making her more relevant to Aussie kids than actual Aussie world leaders in sport.

Plotting 'something major': convicted terrorist has sentence reducedFarhad Said was originally sentenced to nine years and six months for his role in a plot to blow up the AFP's Sydney headquarters and Lithgow prison. sallyrawsthorne '...has sentence reduced'. Yeh, that makes sense. sallyrawsthorne What would make anyone think this guy would get out of gaol and be a 'good boy'. The sentence is not long enough in my book. Who will he harm when he gets out angry, damaged and criminally connected by a term in prison?
