Maggie*, who did not want to use her real name in case speaking out would impact her employment opportunities, worked as a nurse in operating theatres for eight years.
It was here that she learned she would either have to go back to university or pay $16,400 for a 12-week course to reacquire her registration.“A lot of nurses don’t have 16 grand spare to sit down and do a refresher course. I think it’s horrific.” “For a lot of retired nurses it’s about the money. At this point in time they [the government] should forgo [the fees].

In July 2010 the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia introduced the new rules for re-entering the workplace. The program now costs $16,400 and is offered at the Australian College of Nursing as well as LaTrobe University, University of Notre Dame, Central Queensland University and the University of South Australia.
Its been 10 years and she has not kept her registration and not worked in nursing
Why didn’t she maintain her registration?
Notice that a while ago, hope it changes cause that's a ridiculous price to ask for a 12 week retraining course
Man got leg cut of. Now he can't clap
Health Professionals must meet annual registration & payment requirements to maintain skills & currency. Who would want a nurse treating them during these chaotic times when she hasn’t been in the industry for a decade !
All professionals have to meet the cost of maintaining their certification. Suck it up.
Hopefully 'Maggie' has worked out now just whose side the NSW & Federal govt is on.
