The Murugappan family has won its case in the Federal Circuit Court after it ruled Immigration Minister Alex Hawke’s decision to prevent three members of the family from applying for further bridging visas was procedurally unfair.
A week later, Mr Hawke granted 12-month bridging visas to parents Priya and Nades and their six-year-old daughter Kopika, but no visa was granted to four-year-old Tharnicaa.Renewed calls for minister to intervene in Biloela family case following Djokovic revelationThe case before the Federal Circuit Court did not apply to Tharnicaa as she currently has a brief of her case before Mr Hawke.
Ms Ford hopes the decision will put more pressure on the government to "resolve the issue once and for all" and grant the family visas so they can return to their hometown of Biloela in Queensland. The Murugappan couple Priya and Nadesalingam with their Australian-born children Kopika and Tharunicaa.The family's friend Simone Cameron is also urging the immigration minister to exercise his power of ministerial discretion to give the family a more permanent solution.

I have not heard a single line of reason why they cannot stay. They desperately came to a country they could feel safe. They want to call Australia home. They want to live and work as peaceful Australians. Australians everywhere, want them to live here, happily.
What's ironic is that the two major parties empowered the Minister this way. So, he can deport Djokovic; detain indefinitely legitimate refugees and, decide the fate of this Sri Lankan-Australian family.

Buckets of my money being spent on lawyers by elected representitives to try and keep a family, that honestly poses no threat to my family or others, from being allowed to take permanent residence here is not only cruel and wasteful but quiet frankly immoral. We deserve better.
The point is not that they have won a case, but that it has come to this at all. It’s obvious to the vast majority of Australians that this family deserves our compassion and our help, not the millions spent keeping them locked up. Yet another reason to vote cruel Morrison out
